Thank you Arrangements!!!

Thank-you to the Arrangements Committee for a fun December social! The food was great and being able to visit with everyone was so nice, but the gift exchange was the most fun. Everyone enjoyed opening and seeing what was inside the gifts, but I think those that stole gifts from each other had the most fun! Thanks again for all the hard work and making it fun for everyone!

DIAD Clothing Drive

Hello Ladies:

Just to follow up from the meeting [GMM] and inform those who could not attend.

I will be organizing a clothing drive to start out the year as the first project for "Done in a Day."

I have contacted the Shelter house and they are currently in need of Fall and Winter items- all sizes, both sexes.

They have also told me if we have Spring and Summer items that they will direct me where to donate those. They said usually the Crisis Center will take them.

I will be collecting the items over the next 4 weeks at my house, and for those that can't make a trip to drop them off, I will collect at the October meeting. I just don't want to leave it all until the October meeting because I want to have everything organized for dropping it off on Friday the 21st at the Shelter, this way the majority will be ready to go by the meeting and I'll just add the last few things for a Friday delivery.

I am going to organize by size in boxes:


* Boys / * Girls - infant, toddler, kids, teenager, young adult, adult, and Jackets- Winter/Fall..... all summer and spring, I will just place in one large box.

Feel free to drop off everything in one bag and I'll go through it and organize.

I am SO grateful for the scholarship to the Women's Leadership Conference this past week! What an AMAZING experience! I took my free leopard bagolita home, got my cholesterol checked (ideal in allcategories!), ate wonderful food, got to mingle with Alison, Dana and Vanessa from JSL, and got two books signed by the authors. I felt lifted and inpired after listening to Maya Angelou, Dee Dee Meyers, Suzy Welch, Janet Hanson, Alison Levine and Emme (and MORE!) Dine Out to Help Out

Throughout the month of April there have been opportunities for you and your family to support Home Ties Child Care by dining at one of our local restaurants. There are still two dates available for you to come out and show your support!

• On Tuesday, April 19th, dine at HuHot between 5pm and 8pm (proceeds come from all sales)


• On Saturday, April 30th, bring the family to Z'mariks. ($1 donated for each kids meal)

Proceeds will be donated to Home Ties for the benefit of children living in low income and crisis situations in Iowa City.

Home ties helps families in crisis by providing quality, short term child care. Homeless families, as well as those participating in MECCA, Community Mental Health Programs, or other assistance programs, are eligible to receive free child care so that they can search for housing, search and interview for work, and continue with high school coursework. Thanks to everyone who made our March GMM meeting a success. We had great attendance!

Congratulations to Amanda, Cindy and Lisa on winning the scavenger hunt. I hope everyone learned something about the ICJSL committees that will help you decide where to serve next year.

Also winning last night (just for showing up!) were Dana Jean, Ellen, and Karla. Perhaps you can enjoy those Starbucks treats during this unseasonably cool weather!

UAY Room Remodel

The room is small, approximately 11’ X 10” with one window and one doorway. At this time I would like to ask for donations for the following furniture needs:

Couch – to seat at minimum three people

Coffee table- either round or oval

Arm chair – at least two

Light fixture – the current light fixture looks like something from the seventies, but not in a retro, hip way!

Curtains or drapes for window – measures 36” wide, 54” long (minimum)

Please contact me (Lisa L.) directly if you have any of the above to donate.

Bring them and they will get donated!

We all have them. Probably quite a few of them. Please bring you random glass vases to our next General Member Meeting. They will donated, decorated with chalkboard paint, and used as part of the UAY Flower Show. Jenny has graciously volunteered to collect and deliver them, so PLEASE bring 'em!
