I am SO grateful for the scholarship to the Women's Leadership Conference this past week! What an AMAZING experience! I took my free leopard bagolita home, got my cholesterol checked (ideal in allcategories!), ate wonderful food, got to mingle with Alison, Dana and Vanessa from JSL, and got two books signed by the authors. I felt lifted and inpired after listening to Maya Angelou, Dee Dee Meyers, Suzy Welch, Janet Hanson, Alison Levine and Emme (and MORE!) Dine Out to Help Out
Throughout the month of April there have been opportunities for you and your family to support Home Ties Child Care by dining at one of our local restaurants. There are still two dates available for you to come out and show your support!
- On Tuesday, April 19th, dine at HuHot between 5pm and 8pm (proceeds come from all sales)
- On Saturday, April 30th, bring the family to Z'mariks. ($1 donated for each kids meal)
Proceeds will be donated to Home Ties for the benefit of children living in low income and crisis situations in Iowa City.
About Home Ties
Home ties helps families in crisis by providing quality, short term child care. Homeless families, as well as those participating in MECCA, Community Mental Health Programs, or other assistance programs, are eligible to receive free child care so that they can search for housing, search and interview for work, and continue with high school coursework. Thanks to everyone who made our March GMM meeting a success. We had great attendance!
Congratulations to Amanda, Cindy and Lisa on winning the scavenger hunt. I hope everyone learned something about the ICJSL committees that will help you decide where to serve next year.
Also winning last night (just for showing up!) were Dana Jean, Ellen, and Karla. Perhaps you can enjoy those Starbucks treats during this unseasonably cool weather!

UAY Room Remodel
The room is small, approximately 11’ X 10” with one window and one doorway. At this time I would like to ask for donations for the following furniture needs: Couch – to seat at minimum three people
Coffee table- either round or oval
Arm chair – at least two
Light fixture – the current light fixture looks like something from the seventies, but not in a retro, hip way!
Curtains or drapes for window – measures 36” wide, 54” long (minimum)

We all have them. Probably quite a few of them. Please bring you random glass vases to our next General Member Meeting. They will donated, decorated with chalkboard paint, and used as part of the UAY Flower Show. Jenny has graciously volunteered to collect and deliver them, so PLEASE bring 'em!

DVIP: Souper Bowl
DVIP is preparing for their Annual Souper Bowl Fundraiser (Thursday, February 3rd) and they need bowls. Lots, and lots of bowls. Please consider using your creative abilities to make a bowl (cost $8, to be donated) at Fired Up (112 South Linn Street) on Saturday, January 8th. Or, just gather bowls to be donated! Thank you.

It's a Dirty Job, but Someone has to do it...
Laundry. It's something we all have in common. Maybe some of us love it and look forward to it. More likely however, it's a necessary evil that keeps our household running smoothly. In our first edition of getting to know our fellow members with a poll question, I want to know:
